A Wise and Discerning Heart

So God said to him,
“Since you have asked for this
and not for long life or wealth
for yourself, nor have asked
for the death of your enemies
but for discernment in
administering justice,

I will do what you have asked.
I will give you a wise
and discerning heart, so that
there will never have been
anyone like you,
nor will there  ever be.
1King 3: 11-12

Being Renewed in Knowledge

1

Since, then,
you have been
raised with
Christ,

set

your hearts

on things

above,

where Christ is,

seated
at the right hand
of God.

Set

your minds

on things above,

not on

earthly things.

For you died,
and your life is
now hidden with
Christ

in God.

When

Christ,
who is your life,
appears,

then
you also will
appear with him
in glory.

Put
to death,

nature:

sexual immorality,

impurity, lust,

evil desires

greed,

which
is
idolatry.

Because of

the wrath of God

is coming.

rage,

malice,

and filthy language

from your lips.

Do not lie

to each other,

your old self

in knowledge

its Creator.

The acts of the flesh

are obvious:

sexual immorality,

impurity

debauchery;

idolatry

and witchcraft;

jealousy,

fits of rage,

selfish ambition,

dissensions,

factions

and envy;

drunkenness,

orgies,

and the like.

I warn you,

as I did before,

that

those who

live like this

will not

inherit

the kingdom of

God.

But

the fruit of

the Spirit

is

love,

joy,

peace,

forbearance,

kindness,

goodness,

faithfulness,

gentleness

and self-control.

Against such things

there is no law.

There are
six things
the Lord
hates,

seven

detestable
to him:

*haughty eyes,

a lying tongue,

hands
that shed
innocent blood,

a heart
that devises
wicked
schemes,
