Love is Not Self-Seeking

1 Corinthians Chapter 13

If
I speak

in
the tongues
of men

or of angels,

but
do not
have love,

I am only
a resounding
gong

or
a clanging
cymbal.

If
I have
the gift of
prophecy

and can
fathom all
mysteries

and all
knowledge,

and

if
I have
a faith

that
can move
mountains,

but
do not
have love,

I am nothing.

3

If
I give
all I possess

to
the poor

and

give over
my body to
hardship

that
I may
boast,

but
do not
have love,

I gain nothing.

4

Love is
patient,

love is
kind.

It
does not
envy,

it
does not
boast,

it is not
proud.

It
does not
dishonor
others,

it
is not
self-seeking,

it is not easily
angered,

it
keeps
no record of
wrongs.

Love
does not
delight in evil

but

rejoices
with the
truth.

7

It

always

protects,

always trusts,

always hopes,

always perseveres.

8

Love never fails.

But

where
there are
prophecies,

they will cease;

where
there are
tongues,

they will be stilled;

where
there is
knowledge,

it will pass away.

9

For
we know
in part

and
we prophesy
in part,

10

but
when
completeness
comes,

what is in part
disappears.

11

When
I was a child,

I talked
like a child,

I thought
like a child,

I reasoned
like a child.

When
I became
a man,

I put
the ways of
childhood

behind
me.

12

For now

we see
only

a reflection as
in a mirror;

then
we shall see
face to
face.

Now
I know
in part;

then
I shall know
fully,

even as
I am fully
known.

13

And now

these three
remain:

faith,

hope

and

love.

But
the greatest
of these is

love.

우리가 지금은
거울로 보는 것 같이
희미하나

그 때에는
얼굴과 얼굴을
대하여 볼 것이요

지금은 내가

아나

주께서 나를

믿음,

소망,

사랑,

이 세 가지는
항상 있을 것인데

사랑이라

shall we say
then?

sin

has dominion

yourselves

to sin,

alive to God

do not

let sin

reign

in
your mortal
body, that you should
obey it in its
lusts.

do not

present

your
members
(any part of yourself )

as
instruments
of unrighteousness
to sin,

but

present

yourselves

to God

as
being alive
from the dead,

and
your members
(every part of yourself )

as
instruments of
righteousness
to God.

 For
sin shall not
have dominion
over you,

for
you are not
under law

but
under grace.

From Slaves of Sin to Slaves of God

 What then?

Shall we sin
because we are not
under law

but
under grace?

Certainly

not!

Do you not know
that to whom you present
yourselves slaves
to obey,

you are
that one’s slaves
whom you
obey,

whether
of sin leading
to

death,

or
of obedience
leading
to

righteousness?

 But
God be thanked
that though you were
slaves of sin,

yet
you obeyed
from the heart

that form of
doctrine to which
you were
delivered.

And
having been
set free from
sin,

you
became
slaves of

righteousness.

 I speak
in human terms

because
of the weakness
of your flesh.

For just as
you presented

your members
as slaves of
uncleanness,

and of lawlessness
leading to more
lawlessness,

so now
present your
members

as
slaves

of
righteousness
for holiness.

20

 For
when you were
slaves of sin,

you were
free in regard
to righteousness. 

21

 What fruit
did you have then
in the things

of
which
you are now
ashamed?

For the end of
those things
is

death. 

22 

But now
having been
set free from sin,

and having become
slaves of God,

you have
your fruit
to holiness,

and

the end,

everlasting
life.

For
the wages
of sin

is
death,

but

the gift of
God
is

eternal life

in
Christ Jesus

Proverbs 29:1-18

Whoever
remains stiff-necked
after many
rebukes

will
suddenly
be destroyed—

without remedy.

When
the righteous
thrive,

the people
rejoice;

when
the wicked
rule,

the people
groan.

A man
who loves
wisdom

brings

joy

to his father,

but
a companion of
prostitutes

squanders

justice

a king

gives

stability,

those

tear it down.

Those who
flatter their
neighbors

spreading nets
for their
feet.

Evildoers
are snared by

justice

Mockers
stir up a city,

turn away anger.

a wise person
goes to court

bloodthirsty

hate

a person
of integrity

seek

to kill

Fools
give full vent
to their rage,

a ruler

in common:

The Lord

gives sight

to the eyes of

impart wisdom,

its mother.

the wicked

thrive,

sin,

the righteous

Discipline

your children,

peace;

revelation,
