삶에 미치는 말 한마디
어느 작은 시골 마을의 성당에서 한 신부가 미사를 드리고 있었습니다.
그런데 신부 곁에서 시중들던 소년이 그만 실수를 해서 성찬식에 사용하는 포도주 잔을 엎질러 버렸습니다.
잔이 깨어지고 포도주가 땅에 쏟아졌습니다.
신부가 노하여
소년에게 소리를 질렀습니다.
“다시는 제단 앞에 나타나지 마라.”
비슷한 일이 다른 성당에서도 일어났습니다. 그 성당의 신부는 화를 내지 않고 말했습니다.
“괜찮다. 나도 어렸을 때 실수를 많이 했단다.”
성당에서 쫓겨났던 소년은 커서 유고슬라비아의 대통령이 되었고, 독재자로 군림했습니다.
그의 이름은
“조셉 브로즈 티토”입니다.
(1953년~1980년까지 28년간 유고슬라비아 통치 -티토주의 창시)
그리고 포도주를 쏟고도 따뜻한 위로를 받은 소년은 성장해서 천주교 대주교에 올랐습니다.
그의 이름은
“풀턴 쉰” 주교입니다.
(1985~1979 미국의 로마 카톨릭 주교)
말 한마디가 사람의 인생을 바꾸어 놓기도 합니다.
