Grow Up into Salvation

1

Therefore,

rid

yourselves

of
all malice

and

all deceit,

hypocrisy,

envy,

and

slander

of
every kind.

Like
newborn
babies,

crave

pure spiritual
milk,

so that

by it

you may

grow up

in your

salvation,

3

now that
you have tasted
that

the Lord is
good.

The Living
Stone

and

a Chosen People

As you
come to him,

the living Stone—
rejected
by humans

but

chosen by

God

and
precious to
him—

5

you also,

like living stones,

are being
built into

a spiritual
house

to be

a holy priesthood,

offering
spiritual sacrifices

acceptable

to

God

through

Jesus Christ.

For in Scripture
it says:

“See,
I lay a stone in
Zion,

a chosen

and
precious
cornerstone,

and

the one

who

trusts in him

will never be

put to

shame.”

7

Now to you

who
believe,
this stone

is

precious.

But

to those
who do not
believe,

“The stone
the builders
rejected

has
become
the cornerstone,”

8

and,

“A stone
that causes

people

to stumble

and

a rock
that makes
them fall.”

They stumble

because

they disobey

the message—

which is

also what they were

destined for.

But

you are

a chosen people,

a royal priesthood,

a holy nation,

God’s
special
possession,

that you may
declare

the praises
of him

who
called you out
of

darkness
into

his wonderful

light.

Once

you were not

a people,

but

now you are

the people of

God;

once

you had not

received mercy,

but now

you have received

mercy.

Living

Godly

Lives in

a Pagan Society

Dear friends,

I urge you,

as foreigners

and exiles,

to abstain

from

sinful desires,

which

wage war

against your soul.

모퉁잇돌을
시온에 두노니

그를 믿는 자는

부끄러움을

당하지

아니하리라

하였으니

그러므로

믿는 너희에게는

보배이나

믿지 아니하는
자에게는

건축자들이 버린
그 돌이

모퉁이의

머릿돌이 되고

또한
부딪치는
돌과

걸려
넘어지는
바위가 되었다

하였느니라

그들이

말씀을 순종하지

아니하므로

넘어지나니

이는 그들을

이렇게 정하신
것이라

9

그러나

너희는

택하신 족속이요

왕 같은

제사장들이요

거룩한 나라요

그의 소유가 된

백성이니

이는 너희를

어두운 데서 불러내어

그의 기이한 빛에

들어가게 하신 이의

아름다운 덕을

선포하게 하려

하심이라

너희가 전에는
백성이 아니더니

이제는

하나님의 백성이요

전에는

긍휼을
얻지 못하였더니

이제는

긍휼을
얻은 자니라

사랑하는 자들아

거류민과
나그네 같은 너희를
권하노니

영혼을

거슬러 싸우는

육체의 정욕을

제어하라
